Enjoying the Season
I posted a few weeks ago that I had decided against doing any Christmas knitting this year. I’m here to update you on my experiences with it, and I’m delighted to share that I am deeply enjoying my holiday season. Avoiding last minute gift knitting is a tremendous help.
In fact, most nights find me right with a cup of tea at my side and needles in hand, knitting just for fun. I have a few projects I’m working on, like the Wanda Estelle poncho and the Braided Fog Vest, but neither of these have a deadline for finishing. I’m just enjoying the process of knitting, of trying something new, and growing my skillset.
In fact, this has been the most peaceful holiday season I think I’ve enjoyed in years. We’ll be making holiday cookies in a day or two, just for fun. It’s something my daughter and I do every year, and it’s one of those things that I’ve realized make it feel like Christmas to me. No cookies, no Christmas. It’s amazing to me how sometimes it’s not the “big” traditions that matter, but these little ones.
Speaking of little ones, my daughter has been knitting up a storm as well. She’s not a pattern knitter quite yet. Right now, she just has fun with needles and yarn, and seeing how different stitches react to each other. She’s also playing with textures a bit and I taught her how to increase using yarn overs, so her projects have all these crazy sizes to them. She is incredibly at peace when she is knitting, and I am increasingly hopeful that she will come to love the craft in the same way that I do.
How is your holiday season going? Are you finding it as peaceful and enjoyable as I am?
